Ulrich Design Business Cards circa 2006

Today I was at my parent’s house and I started helping my mom go through some old stuff that I had: old boxes for software I no longer use, boxes to old Apple products including an iPod I had stolen from me, assignments from University, and various issues of Photoshop Magazine. It was some good nostalgia and I always find it therapeutic to “release” myself  of “stuff” to the recycling bin/garbage can/shredder. But the neatest thing I came across was an envelope from a print shop containing the first Ulrich Design business cards with an short-lived unrevised, unpolished looking Ulrich Design logo – some cut, some uncut.

A handful of my old business cardsMy immediate reaction was to chuckle at poor design and production of these cards (I’ve found harsh criticism of old projects to be pretty common among graphic designers) but it is actually remarkable that the broad concept that I had come up with in 2006, which was to have a 3D looking “UD” is something I still really like and still get a lot of complements on. In fact, the Ulrich Design logo is being published in the iheartlogos vol. 2, coming out this December (makes a great Christmas gift – hint, hint!) By the way, you can read my review of iheartlogos vol. 1 (click here).

It’s always been a solid one, imo. Not like our original wordmark… ugh.

PS – congrats on the inclusion in iheatlogos! How did that come about?

Thanks, I just submitted it and then anyone who submits a logo(s) has a vote and I got voted in this year.
